What do I do if a student is caught cheating during an online or print exam?

If an instructor or proctor catches a ServSafe examinee cheating on an exam, they should follow these steps:

  1. Stop the Exam for the Examinee: Immediately notify the examinee that their exam session is being terminated due to cheating.

  2. Confiscate Materials: Collect any exam materials.

    • For print exams: Write "void" on their physical answer sheet and record the incident on the Exam Information Form(EIF).

  3. Document the Incident: Record detailed information about the cheating incident, including:

    • The examinee's name and ID.

    • Date, time, and location of the exam.

    • Description of the cheating behavior observed.

    • Any materials or devices involved.

  4. Notify ServSafe: Submit a written report of the incident to the ServSafe exam security at examsecurity@restaurant.org. Include all documentation and evidence related to the incident.

  5. Cooperate with Investigation: Respond to ServSafe Exam Security inquiries with documentation and statements as requested.

  6. Follow Exam Security Policies: Adhere to the ServSafe Exam Administration Handbook guidelines for handling cheating incidents.
